Magistrate admonishes teenaged sisters who threatened father

TWO sisters, 17 and 14 years old, appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with assaulting and threatening their father. Before Magistrate Allan Wilson, they both pleaded guilty to the February 25 offences.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said the younger returned home early morning after a ‘Pop Caan’ show and, because her father asked why she came so late, she became annoyed and threatened to burst his head with a chopper.
The prosecutor said the older defendant then told her father that he should not tell her sister anything because he does not look after her . He said a scuffle then ensued among the three.
The 14-year-old claimed her father first threatened to kill her sister and go to jail.
The magistrate reprimanded and discharged the teens and admonished them that they should be at home with their books rather than at a show.
“If you girls assume your father is not doing enough, he is your father no matter what and you should not disrespect him in anyway. At that time, you should be paying attention to your education and not a show. The court is not a place for teens like you,” Magistrate Wilson cautioned them.
The magistrate also encouraged the girls to aspire to sitting where he sits or to be where the prosecutor or lawyers are, rather than on the prisoners’ bench.
