A serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday found himself on the wrong side of the law when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Seecharran Singh, aged 31, of Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read in-camera.
Particulars of the charge alleged that, during the month of June 2018, at Plantation Providence, EBD, he engaged in sexual activity with the under-aged child
Singh’s attorney, Bernard DaSilva, made an application for bail which was not objected to by Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss.
The Acting Chief Magistrate, however, remanded Singh to prison, citing the safety of the child. The matter will be recalled on February 5, 2019,
The Guyana Chronicle had reported that the 13-year-old girl was left in the care of Singh during the month of June 2018.
It is alleged that Singh made advances to the young girl while her mother was out with another friend and raped her vaginally.
Upon the return of the child’s mother and the friend, the incident was reported and the police were informed.
