At Demerara Assizes…

Prosecution closes in Mahaicony murder case smaller trial
THE Prosecution in the voir dire (trial within a trial) in the Mahaicony murder case at the Demerara Assizes closed yesterday.
It happened after leading State Prosecutor Prithima Kissoon had called six witnesses to testify before Justice Dawn Gregory.
The accused, Keith Doris is indicted for the unlawful killing of Rambarran Singh, of Good Faith, Mahicony, East Coast Demerara, on November 24, 2006.
The proceedings began with the voir dire after the prisoner, through defence counsel George Thomas, challenged the alleged confession attributed to him, on the ground that it breached the Judges’ Rules.
Kissoon, who is associated with other State Counsel Konyo Sandiford, has, so far, used the testimony of Assistant Superintendent of Police Alwyn Wilson, Detective Corporal Oswald Semple, Detective Sergeant Calvin Bailey, Superintendent of Prisons Phillip Baird, Principal Officer Seon Charles and Nurse Felix, both of the Georgetown Prisons.
The defence will respond on Monday.
