– says Dr. Luncheon
GOVERNMENT maintains that the records would show that the most recent disclosures by Wikileaks concerning Guyana are fraught with hearsay, opinions and unsubstantiated claims.
Responding to questions posed by media operatives, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, yesterday said that these uninformed claims frequently formed and became part of the reports from the United States mission here in Guyana to headquarters.
He noted that fortunately, the US Administration does not rely wholly on the State Department and its submissions, but also on those agencies that are co-located in the missions (Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), trade and political affairs bodies), whose reports, he said, should be more factual and give some balance on what exactly is coming out from the American Government, their presence in Guyana, and their assessments.
“The records would show the zeal with which the Government of Guyana and the US have been cooperating, the lengths to which we have both gone to enable the diplomatic relationship to be fostered and grow, how zealously we have defended our sovereignty and our national interests,” the HPS said.
He noted too, the way in which these matters have been reported in the local media, particularly those entities that pander to an anti-government stance. This stance has, over time, contributed to negative perceptions being formed about Guyana, while factual reports of achievements and interventions are yet to be brought to the attention of the public.
