GWI working on restoring water pressure in Diamond

THE Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is assuring residents in the Diamond Housing Scheme, on the East Bank of Demerara, that everything is being done to ensure that water pressure in the community is restored to its normal level.
GWI’s Public Relations Officer, Timothy Austin, made this announcement yesterday in an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, when he addressed concerns raised by scores of residents who were  without water on Sunday.

“According to reports, the power went out in the area and the Diamond well station was affected. Even after electricity was restored to the area, the residents were experiencing low voltage which affected the water pressure; but we will mobilize generators to give some relief to the residents if the situation continues,” he explained.
He noted that once there is not a sufficient supply of electricity, the pump station will not perform at its optimum level.
Diamond residents were left without a supply of water on Sunday after the electricity went off in the area at around 8:00hrs, and they continued to experience the problem even after power was restored two hours later.
“Since Sunday morning we had no water in the pipes , when the current went off the water went too and we were expecting it (water) to come when we get back lights; but this did not happen, until next morning, at about 8:00hrs” one affected resident complained.
Austin has assured Diamond residents that GWI will continue to monitor the situation.
“GWI is working with GPL teams to have normal service restored as quickly as possible,” the PRO emphasised.
When contacted yesterday, Chief Executive Officer of GPL, Bharrat Dindyal, explained that the power outage in Diamond was due to a “connection problem” which has since been rectified.
