Some latest fire victims relocated

SOME of the persons affected by the early Wednesday morning fire, at Broad and Lombard Streets, Charlestown, Georgetown, have relocated with relatives while others are making necessary arrangements. Several victims said yesterday that plans are in train to acquire the house lots where they will, eventually, relocate but a few have opted to rebuild at the same location.
The Wednesday blaze, suspected to have been triggered by some faulty electrical wiring, consumed several houses and wooden shacks, leaving at least 20 people homeless.
Some did not get to save much and others lost everything.
Fortunately, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) responded in a timely manner and contained the flames when it responded with four tenders after receiving the call at 07:05 hrs.
Reports said two men, who were demolishing one of the derelict buildings at the site when an electrical connection snapped, were taken away by the police for questioning.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said they quickly began sourcing water from the Demerara River through Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and Laparkan wharves on Lombard Street.
