I refer to a letter  ‘Eusi Kwayana is a relic of an ancient echo’(GC03/04/11).
Mr. Kwayana is a man of much wisdom and has played an important role in the creation of modern Guyana.

It would seem to me to be much more sensible to try to get to the root of and grasp the spirit of what Mr. Kwayana has been saying rather than to facilely and superficially try to dismiss his words. If we rashly turn away from the words of wisdom and experience which the very few older and articulate Guyanese who are still alive have to offer, we may bitterly regret our superficiality and insensitivity in the future.
In this regard, I would strongly recommend younger people to study Professor Accabre Nkofi’s manifesto “Rebirth of the black man”. One of Professor  Nkofi’s suggestions is to have stronger, more populous, and financially self-sufficient local government units which would go far towards addressing the problems of exclusion, alienation, racism, nepotism and corruption.

Prof. Nkofi stresses the economic revival of the black man which would inevitably translate into a political revival as well. Dr Nkofi sees the central government as having a limited role of defence, foreign policy, the currency and the judiciary.

Many of the central government’s activities would be devolved to the local government units as has been the prevailing practice in the successful democracies of the world such as the UK, USA, Canada and India.
