$19M contract awarded to improve potable water delivery

GUYANA Water Incorporated (GWI) will be spending $19M to install eight-inch new PVC transmission lines, between Somerset and Berks and Charity, on the Essequibo Coast, to boost pressure for residents in the villages.
Manager of GWI Divisional Office in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Ravindra Deonarine, speaking at a Somerset and Berks Well site meeting, said, Wednesday, that the contract for the installation has been awarded to contractor Mr. Sattaur Mohamed.

According to Deonarine, the project will also cater for the construction of trench crossings for the transmission lines.
He said the work will last for two months and, on completion, 4,000 households will benefit from improved potable water supply.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh, who was also at the meeting, said he is happy that GWI is making more investment in the Region to better potable water delivery from the recently commissioned Somerset and Berks Well.
Present, too, were Project Engineer, Ms. Yonette Williams and several other GWI personnel.
