GRC donates to more disaster victims

THE Guyana Relief Council (GRC) Friday made donations to three of nine families, who were victims of fires and other disasters.
One of them, Gaitree Doodnauth, 59, of Lot 597 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara lost her house to a blaze on February 9.
The domestic worker, who has a family of seven, said she presently lives in a fowl pen in her yard and would use the monetary assistance from GRC to purchase building materials for rebuilding.
She was very elated on the receipt and thanked the non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Her neighbour, Perella Waithe, 82, was given guttering to replace what was damaged as a result of the February 9 burning of Doodnauth’s home.
The pensioner is part of a family of four.
Savitri Ramdeen, 61, of Lot 22 Hill Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, lost her house on March 1 when it collapsed.
Unemployed and, presently, staying with a friend, she got a mattress, clothing and foodstuff.
Six families did not go to receive what GRC was donating but gifts were taken to four families affected by the conflagration at Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, last Saturday.
For the year, so far, the GRC facilitated 22 families, comprising 86 persons who were displaced by disasters.
