POLICE in the ‘Cinderella County’ have intensified investigations into the murder of 40-year-old Nandrani Narine, a housewife of Columbia Back Street.
The body of the mother of three was found about 15:30 h Friday, by her son Talesh Narine, on the floor of her bedroom, with blood oozing from her mouth and nose and several cuts and bruises on her face. The young man, who had returned home from work, said his mother was clad in a red dress with no underwear. After he alerted his aunt, who lives next door and word spread in the village, a crowd gathered and, when Police arrived on the scene, the woman was taken to Oscar Joseph District Hospital, at Charity, where she was pronounced dead.
Her husband and the son who made the discovery were taken into custody and the Police are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to determine the cause of her demise.
Meanwhile, relatives said the victim was married for 11 years and endured a stormy marriage which, at times, involved domestic violence.
However, on Friday, when she was brutally killed, her husband was, reportedly, at work in the neighbouring Affiance village, also on Essequibo Coast.
Baksh vows to have order at Charity Market
CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh has told members of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) that the Administration intends to regulate vending at Charity, not push vendors away or prevent them from earning a livelihood.
Addressing the recent statutory October meeting, he said the idea, implementation of which started last year, is to relocate vendors and put order in the Charity Market system.
Baksh explained that letters were sent to sellers, informing them of the intention to have them relocated and clear the public road shoulders and the old tarmac.
He called on RDC Councillors to support the drive to clear the road shoulders, river defence dam and regulate vending at Charity, in preparation for the area to become a secondary town.
“We have to make up our minds and be strong in this bold movement to make Charity a unique town with cleanliness and order,” Baksh declared.
After the RDC met last Tuesday, he visited Charity on Wednesday, with a high level team to inspect the road shoulders that were cleared of wooden stalls and occupation of the new $20M tarmac in front of Pomeroon Oil Mill.
Accompanied by councillors Mr. Pooran Persaud and Mr. Francis Darchiville and Chairman of Charity/Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Mr. Kenneth Persaud, Baksh met vendors informed them of the plan to make them comfortable while they are vending in a very orderly manner.
Yesterday morning, both public road shoulders were clear of wooden stalls and vendors were selling on the old tarmac with collapsible stalls while those on the new tarmac were allowed to construct permanent stalls.
However, Charity Public Road was less congested on the usually busy Monday market.
