PETAL Meyers, 27, of Lot 28 South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison yesterday, on four drug trafficking charges.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, she pleaded not guilty to all the offences, particulars of which said:
* on October 6, at Bartica, she had 115 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose;
* that same day, she also had 416 grammes of the same narcotic to traffick and
* also on October 6, she trafficked 113 and 118 more grammes, separately.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, who successfully objected to bail for the defendant said the different packages were found on Meyers by ranks on patrol who stopped a motor car in which she was travelling.
The Prosecutor said the search that yielded the prohibited substance was conducted in the soles of two sneakers and plastic bags.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Ronald Burch-Smith, for the Defence, claimed the marijuana belonged to someone else.
Meyers has to make her next appearance on October 27, like Lisa Fung-A-Fat, at Bartica Court, to where their cases have been transferred.
Fung-A-Fat, who was also denied pre-trial freedom, is accused of having trafficked 21 and a half grammes, of marijuana, too, on October 6, as well.
She also pleaded not guilty.
