GDF drub Flamingo 4-0; Tigers, Pele play to 0-0 draw

— Alpha face Fruta, C/town take on GFC in more Cellink Plus action tonight
THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) football team drubbed Flamingo 4-0 while BK International Western Tigers and Pele played to a 0-0 draw when action in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA)/Cellink Plus Premier League continued on Friday evening at the Tucville ground. Premier League action will continue this evening at the same venue with Sunburst Camptown tackling GFC from 18:00 h. and defending champions Alpha United taking on Fruta Conquerors in the feature game which is scheduled to get under way at 20:00 h.

On Friday evening, Selwyn Isaacs sent the Army team into the lead in the 37th minute and the 1-0 lead was maintained until the interval.

Twelve minutes into the second session, Shevon Seaforth extended the lead to 2-0 and despite some stout defence work by Flamingo, the soldiers were able to break through their defence to fire home a third goal in the 78th minute, compliments of Seon Brewley.

Seven minutes later, former national player Orin Agard was bang on target, giving the soldiers an unassailable 4-0 lead which was maintained until the end of regulation time.

The win for the GDF side, their fifth in five matches, takes them to the top of the points standing with 15 points from five matches while Flamingo remain on one point from five matches.

Tigers after five matches have four points from a win and a draw while Pele have four points from a win and a draw after four matches.

To date, GDF scored 15 goals and have not conceded any, while newcomers to the Premier league, Flamingo, have scored three and conceded 20.

Pele, on the other hand, have so far scored three goals and conceded four while Tigers have scored three and conceded nine.

Tonight, however, Alpha will be seeking to recapture the lead in the points standing with a win over home team Fruta Conquerors, but the North Ruimveldt-based team will have other ideas, as they will want to improve on their points standing and will no doubt give the defending champions a stern test.

Alpha have 12 points from four matches, having won all. They scored 21 goals to date and only conceded one while Fruta Conquerors have seven points from two wins and a draw after four matches.

Conquerors have so far scored six goals and conceded four.

Like the feature game teams, Sunburst Camptown and GFC will be looking to improve on their points standing and both are expected to provide fans and supporters with keen competition.

Camptown after three matches have six points from two wins and a loss while GFC are yet to record a point after four matches.

Camptown have so far scored four goals and conceded a similar amount while GFC scored two and have so far conceded 15.
