Inner-Wheelers keep things turning at Eccles Nursery

Eccles Nursery School children revel in the return of their favourite recreational facilities

THE Inner Wheel Club of Georgetown on Tuesday officially returned several pieces of recreational equipment they have refurbished to the Eccles Nursery School. Headmistress, Ms. Deborah Johnson, accepted the items on the faculty’s behalf.

The project, which entailed effecting repairs to swings, see-saws, arch climbers, and a trailer, in addition to the school’s guard hut and its security lights along with levelling its school grounds, is yet another step in an enduring relationship the service organisation has with the school, which has an enrollment of 230 students.

That relationship, the organisation said in a release, goes back to as far as the early 90s when they refurbished the entire school building and later fenced the compound.

Since then, the club has been continuously involved in the weeding and general maintenance of the school.

According to the organisation’s Community Outreach chairperson, Ms Evelyn Cheong, they were happy to be able to cater to the recreational needs of the young children attending the school, and is urging those concerned to see that good care is taken not only of the recreational equipment, but also of the general surroundings so that the environment would be conducive to learning.

The Inner Wheel Club of Georgetown is affiliated to International Inner Wheel, one of the largest women’s voluntary service organisations in the world, and holds the status of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) within the United Nations.
The Club was chartered in 1985 and its membership includes female relatives of members of the Rotary Club of Georgetown.

The club has over the years been involved in other projects, including an ongoing scholarship programme for students pursing vocations in healthcare and education.

Support for the club’s programmes is garnered by way of such fund-raising efforts as its annual Garden Party and Hat Show in April, which has become a popular event on the country’s social calendar.
