AN 18-year-old Sophia teen was on Friday charged with trafficking cannabis and appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Emaka Foster, a block-maker of Lot 697 ‘C’ Field Sophia, was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Wednesday, June 29 at Norton Street, Lodge,Georgetown, he had 33 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Prosecutor Corporal Deniro Jones informed the court that ranks attached to the Brickdam Police Station acted on information that narcotics were being sold at the Norton Street residence.
The teen along with another person were observed working at the house; they were searched when one of the ranks pulled out a black plastic bag from Foster’s right side pants pocket. The bag contained several small plastic zip-lock bags with suspected cannabis inside.

Foster strongly denied the allegations, noting that he was wrongfully charged.
“Me and my friend was making block when the “weed-man” was standing next to me, but when the police came the man drop the bag next to me and run,” the young man told the court.
The magistrate after hearing both sides, remanded the teen until July 13 for a report on the matter, since the analyst’s report on the cannabis is still outstanding.
The teen was disappointed in the magistrate’s decision and told her before leaving the court in shackles, “Ya boy was working mommy, I wasn’t doing nothing illegal… I was working.”
