FORTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD Patraj Basdeo, called Sukra, of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was killed on Friday night when a car driven by a drunk driver crushed his skull as he was reportedly lying on the corner on the public road at Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara.Basdeo’s sister, Amanda Johnson, said the accident took place a stone’s throw away from where he lived. Another sister, who also lives nearby, claims to have seen what happened. She said it was a silver-grey Toyota Camry that hit her brother.

“The driver of the car drove away, and a younger brother had to chase the car down and call in the police,” she noted.

Johnson explained that the sound of the vehicle crushing her brother’s skull was heard in the neighbourhood. Relatives said Basdeo died on the spot, and the entire neighbourhood came out after the accident occurred.

She noted that he had once been involved in another vehicular accident, but it was not serious.

The police in a press release stated that at about 20:55h on Friday, Basdeo was allegedly lying on the Sisters village public road when he was run over by a motor vehicle. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motor vehicle was found to be above the legal limit in terms of the consumption of alcohol. He has been arrested and is assisting police in their investigations into the accident.
