Appeal to save sight of three-year old girl

THREE-YEAR-OLD Safuna Lewis, of Sophia Squatting Area, Greater Georgetown, needs monetary assistance for therapy to save her right eye. Her mother, Zureen Lewis, 36, brought the shy child to the Guyana Chronicle yesterday and explained that, two years ago, her daughter’s left eye was removed because of growth that prevented her from seeing through it.
The other eye is now affected and doctors said therapy may be able to save it, using the ‘freezing technique,’ the parent said.
The woman said, about a month and two weeks after she was born, the disease was detected in Safuna’s left eye but too late to save it.

She said, recently, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan was done, at a cost of $76,600, when the diagnosis was made and desperate efforts are now being made to afford the necessary treatment earliest.
“At least, we would feel better even if she is left with one eye,” said Safuna’s mother, who has five older children.
Anyone willing to make a contribution to the cause of saving the girl’s remaining eye, with $20,000, is asked to telephone number 691-4507 or could make their donations at Republic Bank (account 11777990.
