Better water service in store for Berbice

GUYANA Inc. (GWI) in an effort to vastly improve the water service in several Berbice communities held a meeting with residents on Thursday last. The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Van-West Charles told the meeting at Angoy’s Avenue and representatives of the Tucburg Cooperative Group, they wouldl soon benefit from potable water service after concerns were raised about no water supply in those communities.

Following concerns raised about the sections of Angoy’s Avenue that are without service, the CEO, in response, said the programme was being implemented in phases, and that by early 2016, all sections of the water distribution network for the community should be completed.

He further committed to ensuring that contractors for the remainder of the programme would be sourced locally from Berbice.  Dr. Van-West Charles also indicated that the labour required to complete the installation of the distribution system will consist of skilled workers from Angoy’s Avenue and nearby communities to ensure that residents benefit from employment during the implementation of the programme.

Representatives of the Tucburg Cooperative Group indicated their approval after the GWI Chief Executive explained that a similar programme will be implemented for the community.

In a similar meeting with villagers of Savannah Park Cooperative Group, Dr. Van- West Charles indicated that GWI would offer all residents a payment contract in order to assist with the installation of the water distribution network needed to supply the scheme with water service.  “Residents will be allowed to pay for new service connections in affordable portions,” he said, adding: “Our aim is to provide for the many families in urgent need of water service.”
