THE time has come for us Guyanese to embrace our motto more than ever. We have such a powerful motto “One people, one nation, one destiny”. In fact, what can be more powerful than people working together peacefully for a common good. The bible tells the story of the people of Babel building a tower to reach heaven and because they were of one accord they would have done it. They worked together, they believed in each other and they believed any thing was possible. It was God who stopped them. Therefore as a nation we need to pray more for our president, his Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, and all the leaders of our country.
I have personally seen the power of prayers in and through my life and in the community that I live in, Linden.
I remember vividly during the period 2001 -2004 when the bauxite industry was running at a loss, Pastor Selwyn Sills, members of his church and other church leaders in Linden were praying continually for a revival of the bauxite company and the community itself.
If the bauxite company had shut down, Linden would have been a major economic and social disaster to put it mildly.
The bauxite company is now up and running and it is a major employer within the community.
In fact, I am now seeing more agriculture produce coming out of Linden especially from West Watooka (we have fresher and cheaper vegetables) and with the road from Brazil through Linden on the cards and the new fiber optic cable, Linden stands to gain substantially: industries such as transportation, tourism, information technology (IT), garment, food, money exchangers, traders, etc. This is concrete evidence that the power of prayer works.
Please note that these are not the works of man, but the works of God working through man. I often remind myself that I am nothing without God as an empty vessel without its content/s. Of course they are still pertinent issues in the community that needs to be addressed. I firmly believe that the success of this nation is inevitable, but we must work together to achieve it.
Therefore, as one people of Guyana who all have a common destiny, we must continuously pray for our president that God give him the wisdom and knowledge to do his job.
