COLOURFUL and attractively designed Easter Hats and Easter Egg Baskets, skillfully crafted by members of the Divisional Women’s Home Leagues, dominated the Salvation Army’s Annual Easter Rally held at Citadel Headquarters last Monday.
Keenly vying for the coveted prizes were Home Leagues from Citadel Headquarters; East Street/Queenstown; East Ruimveldt; Wortmanville; Kitty; West La Penitence and Bartica. The event which highlighted the collective endeavours of the individual home leagues, vying for the top positions, and in keeping with the spirit of the season, was a spectacular display of women’s creativity, ingenuity and versatility at utilizing novel approaches to come up with fascinating creations.
The entries which were a brilliant fusion of colour, insightfulness of the designers and versatility of materials used, wonderfully showcased and demonstrated the women’s mettle in converting discarded items such as aluminum foil, pieces of fabric, straw and fruit peelings to come up with items of worth. An added plus for the women, was the grace and elegance with which they modeled the products.
Judges were: Ms Margaret Cornette and Michelle Cummings, Craft Teachers from St. Joseph’s High School who expressed pride and satisfaction with the works put out by the Home Leagues. Also congratulating the Home Leagues on their wonderful performance was Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries, Major Marie Theodore who announced the winners and assisted in making the presentation of gifts.

Third Prize – VergenoegenAnd in keeping with the Salvation Army’s “SSS” mandate to provide “Soap, Soup and Salvation” to the needy with whom they daily interface, the seven Home Leagues also run off a spirited egg collection competition which amassed 2,821 eggs or 94 flats for distribution to needy senior citizens and orphans.
Winners in the egg collection category were: Citadel with 722 eggs; Bartica with 603: East Street/Queenstown with 596 and East La Penitence – 411 eggs.
