Six Guyanese among seven nabbed with stolen Lara items

Six Guyanese and a Jamaican national were yesterday still being grilled by the Trinidad police in relation to stolen items belonging to former West Indies cricket captain and batting legend, Brian Lara.
According to a Trinidad Express story, police arrested the seven, four of whom are said to be in the country illegally, with items belonging to Lara, at a house in El Socorro, San Juan, during a pre-dawn raid Tuesday morning,
They were nabbed at a house on Farouk Avenue, around 4 a.m., during a raid spearheaded by an officer of the Besson Street Police Station and including officers from the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) and the Criminal Intelligence Department (CID).
Listed among the items the men were found with were five laptop computers, one belonging to Lara, a pair of batting pads and an autographed cricket bat.
Following the arrests, Trinidad Police believe they may be one step closer to finding the person(s) responsible for robbing Lara who was the victim of a  theft of items from his Lady Chancellor home on Knaggs Hill, Port-of-Spain, last week.
The items lost then are estimated at close to TT$1million, the article stated.
A safe containing cash, jewelry, clothing and an honorary Order of Australia, which was given to Lara during the hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government last year by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, as well as tickets for the upcoming `Beyonce I AM’ concert, were stolen.
It was, however, noted that none of those items were part of the recent theft form Lara’s  home and police are of the belief  they have been taken over a period of time.
On Monday, Annmarie Marcano, 54, a former housekeeper, of Lara appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate charged with stealing items from him between the period January 2005, and February 3, 2010.
Marcano of Cameron Hill, Maraval, was charged with stealing one bottle of Angostura Master Blend rum, nine Oakley sunglasses valued at US$300 each, five tie pins with ’400’ engraved on them, and other items.
