THE Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has condemned a recent assault involving content creator Antony D’Oliveira of the Jumps Travel Documentary YouTube channel, describing the incident as unfortunate and inconsistent with the values of Guyanese society.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, THAG said the incident occurred in the vicinity of the La Penitence Market and stressed that violence is never an acceptable response under any circumstances. The association underscored that public spaces must remain safe environments for both residents and visitors.
“Any form of assault is unacceptable,” the association said, adding that such behaviour has no place in Guyana’s communities.
THAG also sought to assure the public and visitors that the incident does not reflect the character or everyday conduct of the Guyanese people, who are widely known for their hospitality and openness. The association noted that across the country, markets, villages, and communities continue to welcome visitors and storytellers seeking to experience Guyana’s culture and way of life.
The association pointed out that Guyana’s tourism product is rooted in people, shared spaces, cultural exchange, and mutual respect, and said these values must continue to guide interactions in public spaces.
THAG encouraged calm, understanding, and constructive engagement in resolving conflicts and reiterated that violence and confrontation have no place in society.
The association said it remains committed to promoting a safe and welcoming environment that supports livelihoods, protects community spaces, and reflects the values that define Guyana.
