EIGHTEEN new schools across Guyana are slated to become operational by the end of the first quarter of 2026, as the Ministry of Education continues its push to expand access to education and improve learning environments nationwide.
According to the Ministry, the commissioning process for the facilities is already underway, with several of the schools expected to begin accommodating students even before formal opening ceremonies are held.
This approach, officials said, is intended to ensure that teaching and learning continue without disruption, particularly in communities where overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure have long been a concern.
The new schools form part of the government’s wider education infrastructure drive, which has seen significant investment in recent years in response to rising student populations, expanding housing schemes, and increased migration to developing areas.
Authorities have repeatedly acknowledged that population growth and internal movement have placed pressure on existing schools, especially in rapidly expanding regions.
Education officials have said the new facilities are designed to provide more suitable learning spaces, reduce overcrowding, and improve overall teaching conditions.
The Ministry of Education said the programme reflects its ongoing commitment to ensuring more equitable access to schooling and to creating environments that are more conducive to academic achievement.
