A 28-year-old contractor from Amelia’s Ward, Linden, has been remanded to prison after being charged with possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition stemming from a police operation earlier this week.
Martin Fraser of Castello Avenue appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 4, 2025, where Her Worship Rushelle Liverpool read two charges to him: Possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence, both contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Act, Chapter 16:05.
Fraser pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and he was remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned to January 8, 2026.
His court appearance follows an intelligence-led operation conducted by police on Monday, December 1, at his Castello Avenue residence. According to the Guyana Police Force, ranks acted “on information received” and executed a search at around 22:30 hrs.
During the operation, police unearthed “a 9mm pistol, along with two magazines containing a total of 48 live 9mm rounds,” which were found concealed in the roof ceiling of the house.
Fraser was subsequently arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station. The suspected firearm and ammunition were lodged as the investigation continues.
