IN a move to modernise Guyana’s labour market and promote digital innovation, the Ministry of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, in collaboration with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), on Wednesday launched the SkillsConnect Application — a new digital platform designed to connect job seekers with employers across the country.
The launch, held at the GCCI’s boardroom, marked a milestone in bridging the gap between skilled and semi-skilled blue-collar workers and businesses in need of their services.
According to the GCCI, one of the major challenges currently facing the private sector is a shortage of both skilled and unskilled labour, driven largely by the rapid and sustained expansion of the construction industry.

GCCI President Kathy Smith described the app as a “game-changer” for the local labour market. She highlighted the difficulties many businesses and citizens face in accessing reliable services, particularly within construction-related trades.
“It is a privilege to partner with the Government of Guyana to ensure that the information for this platform gets out there,” Smith stated.
Providing an overview of the platform, Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, said the SkillsConnect app was developed to raise service standards and align local practices with international benchmarks.
“The aim of SkillsConnect,” the Minister explained, “is to have small businesses on a platform showcasing the services that they have and to have Guyanese going on that platform requesting those services. We are launching this app to connect everyone together — to connect Guyanese to other Guyanese who have skills and services to offer.”
Minister Ally assured potential users that the platform operates under the supervision of the National Data Management Authority (NDMA), ensuring that all data remains secure. He added that users will be required to register using their national identification cards, while both clients and service providers will have access to a review and rating system to maintain transparency and quality.
Emphasising the broader vision behind the initiative, the Minister said improving efficiency and ease of doing business is essential as Guyana’s economy continues to grow.
“As Guyana progresses — as we move from a middle-income to a high-income country — our attitudes and service to the people must also change. But more importantly, businesses have to reform the way they think and the way they deliver service,” he said.
The SkillsConnect App is now available for download on Google Play and the App Store, providing a new digital avenue for job creation, workforce mobility, and enhanced service delivery across Guyana.
