UHALISI Moore, called “Akali” or “Ukali,” pleaded guilty to the capital offence of murder when he appeared before Acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara.

Moore’s sentencing has been fixed for November 19, 2025.

Moore was indicted for murder contrary to Section 100 (1) (c) (iii) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, committed on Cheryl Moore and Eukeila Adams on August 14, 2023, at Silvertown, Wismar, Linden.

The case is being prosecuted by State Counsels Christopher Belfield, Simran Gajraj, and Geneva Wills.

At the time of the incident, Uhalisi lived at Lot 112 Silvertown Second Street, Wismar, Linden, with several family members, including the two deceased women.

Around 23:00 hours on the night in question, Phillip Moore — father of Eukeila Adams and brother of Cheryl Moore — heard a noise and smelled kerosene inside the house.

When he rushed from his bedroom, he saw Uhalisi standing with a cutlass. The convict swung the weapon toward him, prompting Phillip to retreat.

Moments later, he felt heat coming through the floor, opened his door and struck at Uhalisi before seeing flames inside the house.

Family members escaped by jumping from the verandah, but Cheryl and Eukeila were unable to get out.

Firefighters arrived around 00:30 hours and managed to extinguish the blaze, but the house was completely destroyed.

The two victims’ bodies were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where a fire officer determined that the fire had been maliciously set.

During a video-recorded interview at the Wismar Police Station on August 15, 2023, Uhalisi said he had been hungry for two days and felt ignored by his relatives.

He told investigators that “something started rising up in his head” and instructed him to act.

He admitted to throwing a bottle containing kerosene or gasoline onto chairs downstairs before lighting the house on fire.

Post-mortem examinations conducted on August 16, 2023, by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh confirmed that both Cheryl and Eukeila died from burns.

The presence of soot in the bronchial passages of both victims indicated that they were alive when the fire started.
