If it weren’t for continuous family support, both morally and financially, Lisa Adams would not have been able to achieve her academic goals successfully.
She said that without the unwavering support of her parents, Trevor and Melanie Adams, she could not have been successful in her studies and in upgrading herself in all aspects. Adams remembered when her mother would stay up with her at night when she was studying or had schoolwork to complete. She added that her mother was always there regardless, and her husband was never greedy with money; he contributed towards their education—hers and her brother’s.

Adams reported that they always showed up for her at all graduations, and that motivated her to climb higher academically.
Coming from a tight-knit family inspired her to give it her all in her studies and to pursue her love for music, theatre and the arts.
Adams celebrated her birth anniversary on August 30, 2025. She turned 38 years old and is continuously upgrading herself as a teacher, lecturer and musician.
She grew up in Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, but spent the majority of her life in Phoenix Park, the same village as both her parents and a sibling, who will soon accomplish his dream career of becoming a civil engineer.

Adams was schooled at West Demerara Secondary and attended St. Stanislaus Secondary School for two years to complete business and computer science studies.
After that, she went on to attend Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), where she majored in Mathematics and minored in music.
Coming from a family of musicians on her father’s side—her uncles played the saxophone and guitar—she began singing at the age of 13.
Her grandmother is a gifted singer, so her days were spent listening to melodious music and songs. She was tutored at a young age, which made it clear in her mind that she wanted to learn more, to teach music, and to mould minds. For the love of it, there was no greater calling.

Adams recalled that her uncle introduced her to three chords on the guitar, which was a starting point for her to become self-taught; she figured things out on her own. She plays the guitar, clarinet, recorder and can sing.

Adams is also a Staff Sergeant in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Guyana National Reserve Corps (GNRC). She is a God-fearing woman who is also a member of Harvesttime New Testament Church of God at Pouderoyen.

After she completed CPCE in 2013, she enrolled at the Music School, where she was under the guidance of the late Andrea Mentore, the Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Music Moderator and Music Coordinator.

That one-year course led her to write the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exam in music. She was successful, earning a certificate from England.
Adams is among the first set of students to enrol when the Institute of Creative Arts programme was offered and the school opened under the National School of Theatre Arts and Drama. She earned a diploma in Theatre Arts and Drama, as well as a diploma in Teaching Drama.
She said 25 students started the programme and only 12 graduated, and she was among them.

It was at this stage that her musical career took off. Since then, she has directed many plays at Drama Festival activities and at the Drama School.
She even participated in a musical on-stage performance in Suriname, where she did a storytelling piece.
Adams has been a full-time teacher at West Demerara Secondary School as a Mathematics and Music educator since 2009. She was instrumental in tutoring two students, who passed the music exam for the first time ever at that school in 2021.

She is also a part-time lecturer at CPCE branches at Vreed-en-Hoop, Turkeyen and Georgetown, teaching Practicum, Music and Pedagogy.
Adams has applied to do the postgraduate course for business studies, which is a one-year programme starting on September 27 this year, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Guyana (UG).

“My hope is to pass on knowledge to learners, to fulfil my purpose in life, to leave something of substance behind, to share a piece of me with others as an educator,” she said.
Adams is always willing to assist others and she consistently finds the time to help students, as she has been placed in a position to share her knowledge as both a CPCE lecturer and a secondary school teacher.
