Communities across Georgetown have seen sweeping transformation under the stewardship of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government, with major infrastructure and social interventions reshaping the capital.

Addressing a large public meeting at Stabroek Market Square, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, underscored the administration’s achievements in tackling issues that had crippled the city for decades, traffic congestion, poor lighting and flooding.

Edghill pointed to the installation of 100,000 new street lights and the expansion of critical corridors such as Princess Street and Sussex Street, which have helped ease traffic and improve safety.

“These are not promises on paper,” the Minister stressed. “These are projects you can see, touch, and feel. They are improving lives every single day.”

He also highlighted how government investments have driven up property values, generated employment, and revitalised once crime-ridden areas—signs, he said, that PPP/C development is creating lasting prosperity for city residents.

In sharp contrast, Edghill criticised the former PNC administration for neglecting Georgetown during its tenure, despite having control of both the municipality and the central government at various points.

“They had the authority, but not the will,” he said, accusing the opposition of abandoning the people of Georgetown.

Edghill reaffirmed the PPP/C’s commitment to building a modern, safe, and prosperous capital city and urged residents to rally behind the government’s vision for continued growth.
