In less than three months of opening its doors, the five new regional hospitals that were recently commissioned have processed some 25,000 patients, delivered 220 newborn and conducted just about 100 surgeries.

This was disclosed by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who during the commissioning of the No. 75 Village regional hospital on Thursday, told residents and stakeholders that the government is rewriting the map of health care across the country.

The No. 75 Village Regional Hospital is the sixth new health facility delivered under the Government of Guyana’s wider programme to modernise healthcare, following new hospitals at Diamond and Enmore (Region Four), Bath (Region five) De Kinderen (Region Three), and Lima Sands (Region Two).

“Today, we celebrate extraordinary accomplishments, but just to give you an idea in less than three months. The five other regional hospitals that we have opened process, or would have already seen, 25,000 patients,” he said.

“For those who question the investment, for those who question the accomplishment, there is your answer,” the President affirmed.

The new facilities combined have brought on stream 18 new state of the art operating theatres offering advanced medical care.  They are fully equipped with to offer services in offers services in internal medicine and surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, cardiology, mental health and psychiatry, orthopaedics surgery, inpatient and outpatient care, advanced laboratory and imaging services, as well as dental and optical care.

“We are closing critical gaps in our health care system. We’re ensuring that access to quality health care is not a distant hope reached only after long journeys, but a living reality right here in our communities.”
