THE official submission of the lists of candidates by political parties to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is set to take place today.
The commission has earmarked July 14 as Nomination Day. The various parties are to submit their lists between10:00hrs to 14:00hrs at the Umana Yana in Kingston, Georgetown.
This is a significant milestone in the electoral calendar in the lead up to the September 1 General and Regional Elections.
On Saturday last, the commission had made it known that it is coordinating all logistical and procedural arrangements to ensure a smooth, transparent and inclusive nomination process in line with the legal framework and established guidelines.
In a General Notice dated June 22, 2025, GECOM had reiterated that all political parties intending to contest the elections are encouraged to submit their lists during the designated period.
Previously, it was noted that it had approved 19 of the 22 symbols submitted by political parties to contest the upcoming elections.
Further to this, the final approval of the remaining symbols was subject to minor modifications, which were communicated to the political parties.
According to GECOM, its Chief Elections Officer, Vishnu Persaud, will be on site today to receive submissions, verify documents, and provide guidance on any clarifications as required.
The Elections Commission said that upon the successful submission of a complete nomination package, GECOM will issue an acknowledgement to all parties.
The process will be conducted with strict adherence to electoral procedures, considering order of arrival, document verification, and stakeholder coordination.
