– Geeta Chandan-Edmond accompanies political stalwart, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy
IN a series of vibrant community engagements, Attorney-at-Law and former Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond, alongside political stalwart, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, recently met with residents in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, and various communities across West Berbice to discuss the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government’s ongoing developmental agenda.
The meetings, held in homes and community spaces, provided a platform for residents to voice their concerns, share their appreciation, and receive updates on national programmes directly impacting their lives.
In Stanleytown, residents warmly welcomed Chandan-Edmond, Dr. Ramsammy and party members and operatives, expressing satisfaction with the PPP/C’s delivery of social services under the leadership of President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
Many commended the Government for the distribution of cash grants that have helped ease economic pressures, the steady increases in old age pensions, and expanded access to healthcare across regions five and six.
Residents noted significant improvements in the delivery of medical services, particularly in rural and hinterland communities, and praised efforts to modernise health facilities and expand the reach of telemedicine.
Addressing community requests, Chandan-Edmond spoke about the phased street light installation project being rolled out nationally, assuring Stanleytown residents that their community is part of this development plan.
Drainage also emerged as a key concern, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding. In response, residents were informed of the Government’s commitment to implementing a comprehensive drainage upgrade programme which includes replacing outdated systems with durable concrete drains to improve long-term flood resilience.
Stanleytown, a community that voted overwhelmingly for the PPP/C in the last Local Government Elections (LGE), reaffirmed its strong support, with several residents declaring they are ‘voting solidly for the PPP’ again in future elections.
Chandan-Edmond said this endorsement is a clear indication that the policies of inclusivity, equity, and infrastructural advancement championed by President Ali are resonating with the grassroots.
Meanwhile, in West Berbice, Chandan-Edmond participated in a series of “bottom-house” meetings across villages, bringing Government closer to the people.
These sessions served as an opportunity to highlight major Government programmes and projects, from agriculture revitalisation and roadworks to youth empowerment and housing initiatives. At the same time, the team listened attentively to community concerns and pledged to continue being a bridge between citizens and policymaking.
At the various “bottom-house” meetings Chandan-Edmond stated that the public’s response has been clear, as they are recognizing the work being done, experiencing its impact, and showing enthusiasm to be part of the ongoing transformation, emphasizing that the focus is not only on implementing policies but also on achieving tangible results.
