Grassroots and schools Basketball Organization, Youth Basketball Guyana will on Sunday begin staging of their Tertiary Basketball League.
The third edition of the league will pit University of Guyana (UG), Government Technical Institute (GTI), New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI), Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) against each other from June 1st to July 13th.
The league is intended to be a crucial link in player’s development pathway, offering a competitive space for players to transition from university level to club and national level basketball
The games days are June 1st, 8th, 15th, 22th, 29th, with the semifinals on July 7th and the grand finals on July 13th.
The tournament will open with a double header on June 1st with Linden Technical playing University of Guyana and New Amsterdam meeting Government Technical Institute.
Meanwhile also on Sunday, YBG will host its inaugural National Mini Basketball Tester, a National activation program for Ages 6 to 11.
That event will take place from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs at the same venue.
This developmental initiative will engage children across eight teams from various regions.
The youth will get an introduction to the game of basketball, learn fundamentals, skills and engage in some friendly matchups.
YBG says the goal is to encourage early participation, teach foundational skills, and foster social interaction between young players and coaches from diverse backgrounds.
