– consumers urged to return affected batches for full refund
TOPCO, a subsidiary of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) group, has announced a voluntary recall of specific batches of its 1L Unsweetened Orange Juice, following consumer reports of a deviation in the product’s usual aroma and taste.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company confirmed that the recall was prompted by feedback received last week from vigilant consumers, who noticed differences in the sensory profile of the juice.
Subsequent internal testing validated the concerns, leading to the decision to remove batches 0ne, two, and three of the recently produced TOPCO 1L Unsweetened Orange Juice from the market.
The recall was officially initiated on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
“Our tests have confirmed that, of the entire TOPCO 1L range, only the Unsweetened Orange Juice product has been affected.
“Our Quality Assurance and Production teams are working diligently with the equipment manufacturer and other specialists to conduct a comprehensive review of our supply chain and workflow, aiming to pinpoint the root cause of this isolated issue,” the company said.
Consumers who have purchased the affected batches are being urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
“TOPCO assures all consumers that we remain committed to the highest standards for quality and food safety,” the company said, adding that it values the trust and vigilance of its customers in bringing the matter to their attention.
TOPCO reaffirmed that all other juice products under its brand remain available on shelves and are unaffected by this issue.
