IN a move aimed at modernising operations and improving efficiency, the Georgetown City Council, on Friday, handed over Galaxy Tablets to the City Engineer’s Department. The initiative is expected to streamline processes, enhance real-time data access, and improve interactions between building inspectors and citizens.
During the handover ceremony, acting Town Clerk, Walter Narine, underscored the significance of the City Engineer’s Department in the government’s new single window system, which is designed to simplify and expedite various administrative processes. Narine emphasised that the department’s role remains crucial in advancing the city’s development and ensuring seamless operations.
Meanwhile, acting Human Resource Manager, Sherry Jerrick, detailed the responsibilities of the City Engineer’s Department, particularly the role of building inspectors. She noted that the integration of the new Galaxy Tabs would allow inspectors to carry out their duties more effectively, ensuring that Georgetown’s infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards. Jerrick also highlighted that the success of the system hinges on the contributions of each department working collaboratively.
City Engineer, Colver Venture, spoke on the importance of embracing new technology to improve day-to-day functions. He explained that the Galaxy Tabs would aid building inspectors in monitoring construction sites, ensuring compliance with building codes, and managing permits and inspections more efficiently. By providing instant access to updated information, the tablets will enhance inspectors’ ability to perform thorough and timely evaluations.
The handover marks a significant step in the Council’s ongoing digital transformation, aligning civic services with modernised government practices. The event was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Mayor, Denise Miller, Chairperson of the Human Resource Management Committee, and Councillor Kibwe Copeland, Chairman of the Social Development Committee.
This initiative underscores the City Council’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery and foster a more structured and efficient approach to urban development.
