A JOINT Marine Patrol was carried out in the Pomeroon River on Monday between 15:05 and 16:36 hours, led by Assistant Superintendent N. Lall, the Subordinate Officer in Charge of the Charity Police Station.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with Sergeant 16336 Massiah, other police ranks, and Marine Officer, K. Belfield, from the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD).

During the patrol, several boat operators were stopped and engaged, including Vamol Narine, Darwin Abrams, Bernard Park, Randolph Ammon, and Campbell Thornill. ASP Lall and Mr. Belfield took the opportunity to educate the operators on critical marine safety and regulatory procedures.
The discussions focused on: The process of obtaining a marine licence, ensuring vessels and boats are in serviceable condition, adhering to essential safety precautions, providing life jackets for schoolchildren and all passengers, proper navigation and use of the river channels, the dangers of alcohol

consumption while operating boats, increased police presence in the river and regular sensitisation efforts and compliance with marine rules and regulations.

During the patrol, several passengers were observed without life jackets. The patrol team issued warnings to boat operators, emphasising that necessary action would be taken in case of repeated violations.
Authorities continue to encourage boat operators to prioritise safety and adhere to regulations to ensure the well-being of all river users. Investigations and follow-up patrols are expected to enhance compliance and awareness in the Pomeroon River region.
