On a night filled with nostalgia and several ‘older’ members, the historic Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) held its annual award ceremony which was graced by the presence of Sir Clive Lloyd.
West Indies’ most successful Captain, Lloyd, who is now 80, won the first two ICC World Cups (1975 & 1979).

The former test captain presented awards to Joshua Wade for the most runs (417) and Skipper Devon Lord for the most wickets (34) at GCC’s presentation Ceremony last Wednesday night.
Former Guyana Captain Leon Johnson, who won six First-Class titles in seven seasons was awarded by his Club for this feat.

Lloyd who won two First-Class titles including the first ‘double’ (both 4-day & 50-over) in 1983, presented Johnson, who has never won a 50-overs title, with his award.
Johnson, Manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors which participated in the Global Super League, presented GCC with his team shirt and a bat signed by every player.
President Johnathan Yearwood told the gathering which included former Guyana pacer Leslaine Lambert, a part of the 1983 double, that Johnson’s donation would be a part of the proposed GCC Museum.
Yearwood, who received a special award for his outstanding work as GCC President gave the opening remarks and welcome address.

Among those recognised for their contribution to the oldest club in the Caribbean were the Ground Staff, headed by Basil Shewram for preparing Excellent Pitches at Bourda and the Long Service Awards (25 years) to Winston Williams and Rajendra Shamlall for 35 years of service as a Barman to GCC
The Hockey Awards were presented by the President of the GHB, Philip Fernandes to the most Committed Player (Female): Rebecca Ferreira, Most Committed Player (Male) Lennox Carroll, Most Valuable Player (Female U21) Abosaide Cadogan and Most Valuable Player (Male U21) Alex Peniston.

There were also awards for Most Valuable Player (Senior Female) Gabriella Xavier, Most Valuable Player (Senior Male) Shane Sargent and Most Committed Coach, Coach Tiffany Solomon.

Yearwood presented life Membership cards to GCC Cricketers for representing the West Indies at the Test Level with Alvin Kallicharran (1972–1981, 66 Matches), Faoud Bacchus (1978–1982, 19 Matches), Carl Hooper (1987–2002, 102 Matches), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (1994–2011, 164 Matches), Reon King (1999–2005, 19 Matches), Ramnaresh Sarwan (2000–2013, 87 Matches), Neil McGarrell (2001, 4 Matches), Leon Johnson (2014–2015, 9 Matches) and Vishaul Singh (2017, 3 Matches).
Johnson and King were present to collect their lift members’ Cards.

The Most Valuable Associate Player U-13 award was shared by Nathaniel Sukhnandan and Shahid Ramzan who collected trophies. Trophies were also presented for Most Valuable Associate Player U15 & Emerging Player Rovaldo Perreira, Most Valuable Associate Player U17 Trilok Nanan and Most Valuable U19 Player & West Indian Player Mavendra Dindyal.

There were also awards for Best Cricket Performance by a GCC Player Khush Seegobin (195 runs) and Best Cricket Performance for GCC: Joshua Wade (183 runs).
Plaques for contribution to GCC’s Cricket went to Richard Jodah for producing National Players, Coach Peter Persaud and Masters Indoor Hockey World Cup 2024 Over 45 Finalists: Skipper Philip Fernandes.
The ‘Masters’ Hockey players; Alan Fernandes, Devin Hooper, Dwayne Scott and Gregory Garraway also received Plaques.
