COURTS Optical, which is a subsidiary of Unicomer (Guyana) Inc., announced its yearly community initiative called Brighter View. In an effort to improve vision healthcare in Guyana, the Brighter View Programme provides children aged 6-18 with free prescription eyeglasses.
At a short launch ceremony, Director of Sales at Unicomer Guyana Inc, Malissa Sylvester delivered brief remarks and said, “Courts Optical Brighter View Programme is more than just an annual Initiative, it is a community driven project where the focus is on creating a sustained impact and improving vision care and access to vision services for children of the community.”
Introduced in 2017, the Brighter View Program demonstrates Courts Optical’s steadfast dedication to ensuring that all people in Guyana have access to high-quality vision services. Over 500 children from 20 schools in the area have received free eyecare since the program started.
“Our dedication to this project demonstrates Courts Optical’s unwavering commitment to provide affordable vision healthcare in Guyana to every child,” she said.
With over 10 locations, the company seeks to ensure that more children have access to proper eye-health facilities and world class optical services which Courts Optical prides itself in delivering.
The company continues to work hand in hand with schools and qualified optometrists to conduct comprehensive eye examinations, and provide accurate prescriptions and solutions for children.
She noted that the programme gives free eye examinations and prescription glasses to those in need because financial constraints should never be the barrier to a child’s success.
With a broader scope and stronger dedication, the Brighter View Programme is now offering vision healthcare services to a total of over 250 children. These services include free comprehensive eye exams and prescription eyeglasses.
This she said, represents a doubling of their annual commitment.
Richard Simpson, the Courts Optical Chain Manager said: “Courts Optical continues to live up to the Brighter View purpose and is currently collaborating with community schools around the Courts Optical Stores to provide Free Comprehensive Eye Examinations and assign a free pair of prescription glasses to those who require vision healthcare but lack the financial means to obtain vision correction diagnosis and care.”
Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA), under the Ministry of Human Services and Social Protection, Levine Gouveia said that apart from attention, correction, and affection, children also have material needs.
“Being cognisant that though the agency is the duty bearer for the wellbeing of children, partnerships such as this is most welcomed.
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security applauds Unicomer Guyana on this initiative: the Brighter View Program 2024, and would like to express our heartfelt appreciation, to you for the benefit of this program. We can assure you that our children will make the best of what is offered through this venture,” she said.
