PACE Ace Shemar Joseph has joined forces with GTT for a three-year brand ambassador partnership.

During a signing ceremony on Friday at the Georgetown Marriott, the company confirmed that their brand aligns with that of the young West Indian fast bowler.

According to GTT’s Chief Commercial Officer, Kerchelle Jn Charles, “We don’t see it as an endorsement, we don’t want him to be our ambassador, it has to be mutual. We also want him to be in his image and likeness. Shamar is young, Shemar is fresh, he is growing, a lot of what Shemar says he wants to do is to inspire the youth, and our role is to help him do that.”

The partnership will also see the telecoms giant extending their services to Joseph’s hometown Baracara, as well as the provision of internet service to his family as well as the village centre.

GTT Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Richard Stanton expressed pleasure at being able to sign a young and vibrant star like Joseph, adding, “We are happy to have Shamar on the team, and we will be working closely with him and his community. Shamar’s speed and accuracy with the cricket ball absolutely aligns with our values as being the fastest and the most reliable player in the game.”

In response, Joseph, said, “Thank you to GTT! GTT was always my thing so I’m happy to be a part of the family. Thank you for your support.”

The Guyanese rose to overnight fame with a brutal dismantling of Australia on the West Indies tour of Australia last month.

In his first test match at the Adelaide Oval, Joseph scored 36 (41 balls) with the bat, including three fours and a six, in an innings where he took on the formidable Australian pace attack.

He then took an impressive 5 wicket haul, including having Steve Smith caught at slip off his first ever delivery in Test cricket, before claiming the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.

Building on his success in the first Test, Shamar came back in the second Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, still hungry for more. He took one wicket in the first innings and had to retire hurt at the end of Day 3 after being hit flush in the toe by a yorker from Mitchell Starc while batting.

In serious doubt of being able to take any further part in the match, Day 4 is when Shamar Joseph forever etched his name into the history books. After coming onto the field late, due to not having his uniform at the ground, he emerged from the tunnel and immediately started bowling.

In an incredible spell of 11.5 overs, he took 7 wickets and led the West Indies to their first Test match win in Australia for 27 years, tying the Series in the process.
