New Spectator accommodation, racing class touted

A RENEWED year of racing opened on Thursday evening with the promise of new spectator facilities at the South Dakota Circuit and an entirely new class of racing.

These were some of the much talked about things as the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) presented its calendar of activities for the 2024 year.

During the gala launch at the Pegasus Corporate suites, GMR&SC President Mahendra Budhoo told potential sponsors, drivers and special invitees that 2024 dawns a new era for motorsport locally.

“We want to say this year that we are in talks with the government to assist us. One of the things we want to do this year is put in seating for our fans and patrons and we are in talks to do that,” he said.

According to reports, the club is seeking to have bleacher style benches installed in several parts of the south Dakota facility to ensure that fans can come and further enjoy racing.

GT3 Class
Meanwhile, more light has been shed on the new GT3 class of race cars the club is planning to implement.

According to the GMR&SC boss, “The new GT3 class is coming. It is the future. We want to bring cars from the Caribbean and even Latin America to compete here in Guyana.”

“We are not going to do away with any of our traditional classes of course,” Budhoo stressed, adding that, “We are still going to have our groups four, three and so on.”

He added that there are already cars on the way for this new class, stopping short of naming those who have purchased machines eligible.

The GMRSC Season continues with the Drag race round one dubbed ‘1320 ‘heat at the South Dakota Circuit on Sunday
