DEPUTY Commissioner ‘Operations’ Ravindradat Budhram, Deputy Superintendent Ronald Ali and Sports Development Officer Colin Boyce along with stakeholders visited the Police Sports Club ground on Monday morning to inspect the cricket pitch ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be hosted in the West Indies and USA from June 1-29.

Among those present at the inspection were Mark Burchell (Lead Teacher at Sports Turf Management, Melbourne Polytechnic), Kent Crafton (Regional Curator at Cricket West Indies), Stephen Connolly (Programme Leader at Melbourne Polytechnic), Melissa Dow-Richardson (Assistant Director of Sports, Guyana), Azad Ibrahim (Manager of the National Stadium), along with groundsmen.

The Guyana Police Force ground is one of several venues selected in the Caribbean to host warm-up and practice matches.

It is understood that in Guyana, the Everest Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club are supporting venues to the National Stadium, Providence, for training or warm-up matches.
Guyana will host semi-final one and five group games of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, slated for June 1-29, 2024, in the West Indies and USA.

The group matches in Guyana are from June 2 – 8, while the semi-final is June 26.

The pinnacle ICC Men’s T20 event will see a record 20 teams divided into four groups competing across 55 games for the right to be crowned ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Champions 2024, including co-hosts the West Indies and the USA, together with the other qualifiers: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Uganda.
