Buxton Stars, Mahica Determinators register wins

East Coast Mash Cup Knockout Football Competition…

BUXTON Stars and Mahaica Determinators were winners on Friday’s opening night of the East Coast Mash Cup Knockout Football Competition.
The Buxton side beat Poudroyen FC on penalties after goalless draw at the Golden Grove ground.

The EDFA League Champions – Buxton Stars held their nerve to win 5-4 in a tense and tight penalty shootout.

In the feature game, GFF Elite team Ann’s Grove United were stunned by a fit and running Mahaica Determinators team.

Mahaica scored two quick goals in the first half, but Ann’s Grove United fought hard and level the score to 2-2 in the second half.

After 90 minutes of football penalties were required to determine a winner; thus Mahaica Determinators prevailed 5-6 in sudden death.

The competition continues this evening at same venue with a triple header from 17:00 hours.

In the first game, a youthful and new look Victoria Kings will take on longtime rivals BV/Triumph United while at 7pm Elite team Buxton United will tackle Airy Hall FC out of Mahaicony.
The feature game will see Haslington FC colliding with Paradise FC of East Coast Demerara.

This is the second year of the competition for the East Demerara Football Association and the Mash Cup Association which is a group of businessmen from the East Coast Community.
The tournament also got the blessings of the local governing football body, Guyana Football Federation.

The venue for the games are Golden Grove Ground, ECD and #5 Village, West Coast Berbice.

The competition is made up of 16 teams drawn from the East Coast Demerara, West Coast Demerara, West Coast Berbice and Georgetown.

The participating teams are: Fruta Conquerors, Victoria Kings FC, Buxton United, Buxton Stars, Haslington FC, Cougars FC, Paradise FC (WCB), Ann’s Grove United, Monnederlust FC, BV/Triumph United, Airy Hall FC, Paradise FC (ECD), Poudroyen FC, Mahaica Determinators, Mahaicony Lions and Hopetown FC.

The winner of the competition will pocket $500,000 plus a trophy, 2nd place – $250,000 and a trophy, 3rd place 150,000 plus a trophy and 4th place $100,000 and a trophy.
