THIRTEEN prison officers recently completed diploma programmes in Audit and Taxation and Law at The Institute of Commercial Management through the College of Excellence, Management and Business (CEMB).
Those persons who successfully completed the Audit and Taxation programme are: Michelle Boyce, Martin Rajmangal, Yolanda Persaud, Shellesia McAlmon, Alextra Tixey, Renella Lawrence, Noelle Bacchus, Tocia Adams and Antonita Greene.
Kirk Joseph, Mark Smith, Burt Gonsalves and Tamila Jackman-Crawford are the officers who now have a Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in Law.
According to a press release, Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot said that joining the GPS as a Prison Officer gives persons a range of career opportunities.

“You can develop in your role, specialise, or advance through positions once you have completed your probationary period and gained the necessary skills and experience. So, the advancement of qualification is essential for anyone looking to pursue a career in the criminal justice field,” he was quoted as saying.
Furthermore, Elliot noted that the Prison Service will provide unwavering support to prison officers throughout their careers to build their knowledge, experiences and to help them grow in their current role or to progress.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Prisons Kevin Pilgrim stated that the Prison Service’s management structures are devised to continuously encourage officers to capitalise on training opportunities available locally, regionally or internationally, so as to enhance officers’ personal competencies.
