A Guyanese argues in favour of Maduro

WE will have to wait and see as the days unfold how state security, the Government of Guyana, the opposition, the media and other stakeholders respond to what GHK Lall wrote about Maduro’s intention of invading Guyana. Putting an analysis to his take as to why there would be a Venezuelan incursion, would reveal that Lall was not only reckless and insane on how he saw Maduro, but wrote his piece in complete disregard for the sovereignty of Guyana.

I will quote from Lall and below offer my response. Q is for quote. C. is for comment.
Q- “All comparisons favour Venezuela and unquestionably so. Manpower, money, military means.”

C- This is both ignorance of comparative politics and international relations. It was Henry Kissinger who once said: “Power never so great yet never so weak.” He was referring to the inability of superpowers to do what they want in the age of the Non-Aligned Movement because the international order at the time did not allow superpowers to whatever they wanted despite their humongous military might.

It is silly to say that all comparisons favour a Venezuelan invasion. They do not. First, the country is so devastated in terms of resources that it cannot sustain a war. Secondly, the current international order does not favour Venezuelan aggression. After Ukraine, the world will not tolerate Venezuela’s aggression against Guyana. It would simply be opening the door for all kinds of adventurism around the world.

Q- “It is mouthwatering the combination of enticements.”

C- Someone writing this about Venezuela who is a Guyanese has a weird mind. You do not write those things when your country is facing aggression from the leadership of a dictatorship. You must remember that in the current situation, Venezuelan intelligence is monitoring the Guyanese response to the threats. In penning those words, you are giving ideas to Guyana’s enemy. Your patriotic role is to send out analyses that would not favour a Venezuelan incursion so the Venezuelans would know, if they didn’t, that circumstances do not support war. In composing those words, GHL Lall is causing Venezuelans to think about what he wrote. That is not the task of a Guyanese in the current situation.

Q- “The international community is sure to be adversarial but the bell would have already been rung. The deed done.”

C- This is unadulterated ignorance of international relations. A Freudian analysis should be put to that statement. It favours an invasion by stating what is manifestly wrong. The bell has not been rung out and will not be rung out and the deed will not be done for two reasons. In diplomatic channels, Maduro has been warned to leave Guyana alone and those sentiments have been conveyed by more than one powerful country. Secondly, Maduro will not invade because it will be the end of him and he knows that.

Q- “All things considered, it may have been concluded by him that it is better to seize the moment, and deliver what has eluded all other Venezuelan leaders for many lifetimes.”

C- How can any mind from this side of the border write such dangerous things? Again, I repeat, Venezuelan intelligence is monitoring how Guyana is reacting. From this side of the border, our duty is to inform the Venezuelan leadership that circumstances in the world and inside of Venezuela are not on the side of an invasion and that, rationality, clear-and level headed thinking and profound reflections must be take place before any silly move is made against Guyana. What GHK Lall has done in that column that he wrote is to give ideas to Maduro. How he knows Maduro is thinking the way he put it and why he put it that way?

In conclusion, I repeat what I advocated in my Saturday piece on what GHK Lall wrote. I think it comes within the realm of treason and state security should pay a visit to him. What is abominable and treasonable is that the column is still on the online edition of the paper for Venezuelan intelligence to read. Lall is an opposition supporter and we will see what the opposition is made of if they do not condemn him. In my last comment above, I asked why he shaped the words the way he did.

Here Freudian analysis is relevant. As an unhinged hater of the PPP, both as party and a government (maybe from reason of being removed from the rewarding life as chairman of the Gold Board- note the word, “rewarding”). Mr. Lall cannot and will not separate politics from love of country. For him the PPP is Guyana, anything against the government he will support including Maduro’s motive. This gentleman should be in front of the courts.
