Tianna Springer shattered the Girls U-18 200m record

TIANNA Springer, Athaleyha Hinckson, and Skylar Charles, for the second night running, dazzled under the lights at the National Track and Field Facility, West Coast Demerara, by producing record-breaking runs on their way to gold at the 61st National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships.
With gold in the U-18 100m and 800m already in the bag, Springer added another gold and record by blazing to 24.30 seconds in the 200m on Thursday evening.
In the girls’ U-16, Hinckson clocked 24.50 seconds to smash Springer’s previous record of 24.72 seconds in 2022.

District Three’s Jonathan Roberts also got a sprint double as he missed out on a record in the 200m but got gold in a time of 22.32 seconds.
Tessianna Harris of District 10 lowered her 200m record to 26.35 seconds after clocking 27.84 seconds in 2022.

Javon Roberts struck gold but could not shatter another record as he clocked 4:33.1 seconds, a distance from the standing record of 04:17.92 set by Murphy Nash in 2018.
District Five’s David Bovell (4:33.8 seconds) was second, followed by District Four’s Jamol Sulivan (4:40.4 seconds).

District Three’s Odida Parkinson suffered an upset in his Boys’ U-20, as he clocked 4:29.8 seconds to finish second behind District Five’s Samuel Henry (4:27.1 seconds), while Akandy Vammaalson (4:31.9 seconds) of District 11 got the bronze.
Meanwhile, Deshwan Williams of District 13 (South Georgetown) won the female teachers U-31 Long Jump with a best leap of 4.13 metres.
Kerry Matheson of District 6 (Corentyne) got second (4.08m), while Sheneel McCalmon of District 10 got third (4.03m).
More so, District 11 won both the Boys and Girls Open 4x400m. The event will conclude tonight, with the main attraction being the 400m finals and 4x100m relays.
