PRESIDENT of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, Vemen Walter, says the club is extremely disappointed with no first-division cricket being played in Berbice
The club indicated that since November 2022, when the Ivan Madray T20 Tournament concluded, no first-division cricket has been played in Berbice. Additionally, the club also indicated that prior to the Ivan Madray T20 Tournament, there was also little first-division cricket.
“Ask some cricketers when last they have played first-division cricket in Berbice and they will tell you that they can’t remember,” the club president disclosed.
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has recently announced the Berbice team for the upcoming Senior Inter-County 50 Overs Cricket Tournament.
It’s a very good team mainly made up of national cricketers; however, there was no trial match to select the team. Additionally, with no first-division cricket being played, some of the players selected haven’t played a competitive cricket match for months.
The weather has been very conducive for cricket in Berbice for months, but yet no first-division cricket is being played.
There are also several youth tournaments that have commenced but for unknown reason(s), several of those tournaments are still to be completed.
The BCB is therefore urged to commence the first-division cricket season urgently” the club concluded.
