Man found not guilty of raping boy twice

DANE Thomas was on Tuesday freed of two rape charges by the Sexual Offences Court of the Demerara High Court after a jury returned ‘not guilty’ verdicts.

Thomas was on trial before Justice Navindra Singh for allegedly engaging in sexual penetration with an eight-year-old boy between December 2018 and December 2019. It was further alleged that Thomas committed the act again sometime before December 2020 when the victim was nine.

The jury after deliberating for almost two hours, found Thomas not guilty on both counts.
It was alleged that during the periods mentioned in the charges, the child was left in Thomas’ care. He allegedly committed the act while the child’s mother was out.
The child’s mother reported the matter to the police after the child related what had allegedly transpired.
