POLICE, acting on information, arrested three persons in a minibus on Sunday after a passenger was found with an illegal firearm and ammunition at Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo.
According to the Guyana Police Force, at around 14:30 hours on Sunday, ranks went to Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, where contact was made with the 47-year-old driver of a red and white minibus bearing registration number BWW 7635.
Police said that the minibus was stopped, and a 37-year-old man in the front passenger seat was seen acting suspiciously.
“The ranks identified themselves and requested to carry out a search on his person. He permitted the ranks to conduct the search, during which a bulky blue rag was lying at his feet,” police noted.
One policeman took possession of the blue rag and unwrapped it to find a silver and black coloured .38 revolver containing six live matching rounds of ammunition.
Further, a black plastic bag containing 17 rounds of suspected live .38 rounds of ammunition was also seen.
Searches were conducted on the other two occupants of the minibus. They were all told of the rank’s suspicion, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station.
