Strong start for Guyana in IGG Table Tennis

GUYANA had an extremely favourable showing on the opening day of Table Tennis at the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) being staged at the National Gymnasium.
With only Guyana and Suriname participating in Table Tennis, National Under-15 champion, Colin Wong topped his Surinamese counterpart, Shariq Bipat, 3-1 (11-9, 11-13, 11-4, 11-9) after which the young prodigy, Jasmine Billingy, cruised to an 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 triumph over Maria Kanhai.

Saalih Rahmin and Billingy defeated Bipat and Kanhai 11-8, 11-1, 11-6 but Bipat got the better of Ebo McNeil, winning 10-12, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.
Another promising star, Samara Sukhai easily won 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 against Yasmien Jodiwongso and Akira Watson outclassed Kayleigh Idrisman 11-4, 11-7, 11-4.

The girls’ doubles were pretty much the same again, as Shackery Damon and Seona Baker ousted Jodiwongso and Idrisman 11-2, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10.
The final match saw Rahmin whip Bipat 13-11, 11-3, 12-10.
Table Tennis action continues today from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs at the National Gymnasium.
