A POST-MORTEM performed on the body of Stephon Stewart, who was killed after he crashed into a truck that was removing a motorcar on the Rupert Craig Highway, revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries.
The autopsy was performed by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary on Monday.
The body was later handed over to his relatives for burial.
Stewart, 32, died at the scene of the accident which occurred on Saturday around 03:10hrs.
According to a police report, the accident involved a motorcar PRR 7135, which was driven by the deceased; motor car PKK 9331, driven by Adrian Montrose of One Mile Wismar, Linden, and motor lorry GAC 1297, which was being operated by Richard MacDonald of Section ‘B’ Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara.
Inquiries disclosed that Montrose was proceeding west along the southern lane of the Rupert Craig Highway when it was alleged by the driver that an unknown truck swerved left into the path of his vehicle, causing him to swerve farther left to avoid a collision and, in doing so, he lost control of his vehicle and ended up submerged in a trench situated on the southern side of the road.
While the driver of the motor lorry was attempting to remove Montrose’s car from the trench, Stewart crashed into the rear portion of the vehicle.
Stewart was seen motionless in his vehicle after the collision and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
