EUGENE, Oregon – After five days of gruelling competition, five-time World Athletics Championships 100m gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was starting to feel the effects of her brilliant outings at the 18th World Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

“Yes, I am tired,” she said after her season’s best 21.82 seconds in the semi-finals of the women’s 200m on Tuesday. It was her fifth race in four days, leaving her to question the schedule which, she said, was tougher than for the male sprinters.

“I don’t know who did the schedule. I definitely think it was crazy and I would like to say biased as well,” the 2013 World Championships sprint double champion said.
“Because the men ran before us and they got a day’s break and they came back (Monday) and they started before us, we went after them and today(Tuesday) we went before them,” she said, adding they both got a rest day on Wednesday.

“(I am) not sure what that was about, but honestly you just get over that as it is not going to change at this point, so no sense dwelling and heating up yourself over it. So you just focus on yourself and what you need to do and just stay positive because you can’t do anything about it right now and just compete when the final comes on Thursday.”

The men started their 100m on Friday’s opening day of the 10-day championships, ran the semi-finals and finals on Saturday, before starting their 200m campaign on Monday, the same time as the women who ran the semis and finals on Sunday. (Jamaica Observer)
