POLICE Constable, Sherwin Peters, was, on Thursday, committed to stand trial at the Essequibo High Court for the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Essequibo businessman, Orin Boston, on September 15, 2021.
Magistrate Esther Sam handed down the committal at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court following the closure of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the matter.
She ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against the 32-year-old Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden resident.
Particulars of the charge alleged that Peters, a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), unlawfully killed Boston at his Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast home.

Peters will remain out on $1 million bail, which was granted to him during his first court appearance back in January.
According to a police report, ranks on the day in question were conducting an anti-crime operation in Regional Division Two, when, at about 04:40 hours, they went to Boston’s house to conduct a search.
It is alleged that during the operation, Peters shot Boston in the upper left arm. Boston’s wife, Feona, reportedly claimed that, at the time of the incident, her husband was asleep in his bed.
The popular businessman was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Public Hospital.
